What is Mishloach Manot?

It is a mitzvah to send Mishloach Manot (sweet treats) to friends for Purim. Cantor Lonee describes Mishloach Manot as a wonderful way to build community and celebrate the holiday of Purim. It is considered a mitzvah to send Mishloach Manot because this shows that we are a united and strong community that cares about each other. We also send Mishloach Manot to those that are in need in our community. Receiving a gift during this time reminds us all that we are a part of a beautiful community, it reminds us that we are being thought of and it helps put a smile on our faces.

How does the fundraiser work?

Each member/family will receive one Mishloach Manot (no matter how many Mishloach Manot are purchased for you), with a personalized letter showing the names of all those who have contributed in your honor.

How do I order?

Orders can be placed through www.happypurim.com by using the unique link emailed to you in January.  You may also contact the Temple at (310) 398-5783 or email admin@templeakiba.net to obtain an individual code that can be used on the HappyPurim home page with the first 3 letters of the primary member's last name.  Telephone orders and paper order forms are also an option by calling the Temple at (310) 398-5783, or emailing admin@templeakiba.net.

Does everyone receive Mishloach Manot and will everyone receive the same Mishloach Manot?

Yes, and yes!

Why is my name not appearing on the congregation list?

Because you cannot buy Mishloach Manot for yourself, so you won’t see your own name.

How will I receive Mishloach Manot gift?

If you have a child in Religious School, Hebrew High, or the ECC, gifts will be distributed in the classroom between 3/7 to 3/10. For everyone else, distribution will be on Friday, 3/7 after Shabbat Services (services are at 6:30 PM).

What if my friend buys me Mishloach Manot but I don’t buy one for them? Oy the guilt!

This doesn’t have to be so! When ordering, look for the red “promotions” box and check “reciprocity”. This way, for a flat fee of $180 (and suggested order of 3 Mishloach Manot) anyone who buys you Mishloach Manot will also receive one from you!
